SFK Hosts Career Orientation Seminar for Senior High School and College Scholars

September 9, 2024

The SFK Foundation successfully held its annual Career Orientation Seminar on June 26, 2024, at the SFK office in Sauyo. The seminar aimed to guide incoming senior high school and college scholars as they prepare for their upcoming admission processes. The primary objectives of the seminar were to:

1. Equip scholars with essential information and skills regarding SHS and college admissions.

2. Provide valuable guidance on selecting tracks, strands, courses, and schools that align with their academic abilities and interests.

3. Help scholars identify their strengths and interests and match them with suitable, in-demand career paths.

The half-day seminar was attended by Grade 10 to 12 scholars and their parents, with a total of 20 participants actively engaged in the activity. The keynote speaker was Ms. Elizabeth V. Meneses, a board member of SFK-Philippines and former Chief of the Curriculum Implementation Division at the Division of City Schools in Quezon City. Ms. Meneses thoroughly covered important topics such as SHS tracks, college courses, the admission process for schools and universities, and how students can assess their knowledge, attitudes, and skills to make informed decisions about their future academic paths.

Key topics discussed during the seminar included:

1. Senior High School Tracks and Strands, and College Courses

2. School and University Admission Processes

3. Knowledge, Attitudes, and Skills (KAS)

4. Job Opportunities

5. Holland’s Theory of Career Choice

To make the seminar more interactive, participants engaged in a self-assessment activity designed to help them identify their academic talents and skills. An open forum provided students with the opportunity to share their thoughts and ask questions.

Additionally, SFK invited three guest college scholars—Ms. Gingver Ann Oriarte, Ms. Camille Silvio, and Ms. Princess Jean Laborte—who shared their personal experiences and practical tips on admission process. While Gingver and Camille shared via pre-recorded videos, Princess Jean enthusiastically shared her insights in person. They discussed the preparation needed for entrance examinations and offered practical advice to help future scholars succeed.

SFK also provided printed materials and snacks for all participants, making the event both informative and enjoyable for students and parents alike.
